- Live pigs will be killed in two ways: - vertical bleeding and horizontal bleeding.
- River-type burns: The body is submerged in a pool of hot water (4-6 minutes), manually turned or even scalded.
- Suspension scald: The carcass remains on a track (4-6 minutes) in a closed hot water system, minimizing heat loss.
- Steam tunnel burns: Bodies enter steam chambers on the rails, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
- Horizontal epilation: The body is transferred from the scald to the epilation machine.
- Spiral Hair Removal: Used with steam scalding; the body slides directly into the spiral hair remover.
- Red viscera (heart, lungs, liver): inspected, cleaned and processed on a dedicated conveyor. Waste is processed >50 meters from the facility.
- White internal organs (intestines, stomach): Inspect, clean and handle similarly. Waste disposal follows the same hygiene protocols.
- Suspended: The carcasses are pre-boned on guide rails before final deboning on a conveyor (common in large plants).
- Horizontal: The carcass is deboned directly on the conveyor belt.
